In 1968 EMI Records ended
the separate numbering systems they had for Capitol, Columbia, Decca,
Deram, London, Parlophone, Stateside and Tamla-Motown and combined all
the labels into a single unified numbering system which began at 8301.
This presumably was done to avoid having duplicate numbers and
Parlophone, at the time, in the low 8000's was the highest numbers
